LBS Love: Velo Bike Shop
So after two years and 2500 miles I decided to take my trusty road bike in for a tune-up. I tinker throughout the year and I spend quite a few hours cleaning and tweaking and adjusting, but ultimately there comes a time when you need to hand it over to the pros. I've always liked the guys down at Velo Bike Shop on pine and 11th—and I can ride there in 5 minutes—so it seemed like the logical place to go for a tune up. That was yesterday. Today, Ryan at the shop called me up and said he found a sizable crack in my frame under the seat stay. Half of my bike is carbon fiber—the top half. And yes, that's where the crack is. And sure, my ass is probably too big for a carbon fiber bike, but let's not dwell on that. (For the record: I didn't go looking for carbon, but the sales guy gave me a free upgrade.)
So anyway, Ryan says he already called Giant and they were shipping me a new frame today—for free! Full replacement. That's pretty great and all but I like my frame! It's my friend. I can't just kick it to the curb. (And it's from 2007.) But for whatever reason, Giant has my 2007 frame in stock and I get to have a brand new one. For free! Awesome. Even better, Ryan says that Velo will roll the assembly cost into my tune up cost, meaning: free assembly too!
Needless to say, Velo Bike Shop is now my LBS for life. I think Kevin hangs out there quite a bit, and know I know why.

Yeah, I’m pretty much there once a week for a few hours or grabbing a beer with the guys after the shop closes. I’ve bought all my bikes since moving to Seattle from them and have never been disappointed. They’ve taught me a lot about how to maintain my bike and fix just about anything even an out of true wheel

It should be ready next week. I’ve been doing 20 - 30 miles when I can, but it still doesn’t feel like the season has kicked in yet. A long ride sounds pretty good.

I personally like Velo even though everyone else I know hates them. I’ve found they are nice to loyal & knowledgeable customers, go figure. Velo fo lyfe!
