Lance Rides Again?
Rumors are running rampant that the 7 time tour champ is coming back. If true, he’ll be racing in 9 races with Astana for the 2009 season. In addition, he’ll be racing for no salary or bonuses and all his internal testing results will be available for the public. It’s been a crazy year for cycling, but this one takes the cake. Viva la Lance.
Update: Okay it’s official, he’s back. There’s a short message on LiveStrong, but the big announcement won’t be made till the 24th. Crazy.

I can’t wait. This beats Micheal Jordan and definitely Brett Favre. I think the best part is that it seems - though I may be naive - that Lance is coming out of retirement to prove that cycling can be competitive and NOT dirty. And, THAT I love. I’m curious why he’s with Astana. Anyone care to speculate?
PLus, he probably found running marathons rather banal next to climbing the highest peaks in France.

He would ride with Astana because of Johan Bruyneel. I can’t imagine him with any other director. But that would mean Levi, Contador AND Lance on the same team? Wow. Some team. I’ve read a few stories where Astana denies any of this, so we’ll have to see how it plays out.
