Freewheelin’ at the DNC

As a Monday through Friday resident of Denver, I was lucky enough to participate in the Democratic National Convention this past week. Parties, speeches, music, politics, democracy and bikes. Yes, bikes. As an effort to make the DNC carbon neutral event and to make it easier for delegates, supporters, staff and anyone participating in the weeks’ activities, The Bikes Belong Coalition unveiled Freewheelin’. It’s a bike rental service that allows you to snatch up a bike - there were 1000 available - for free with a credit card deposit.

I saw these Freewheelers everywhere. People in suits riding bikes. It was like I was in Amsterdam or something. If their purpose was to show that biking is a great way to get around a city versus a car, I think they made their point. Bravo Freewheelin’!
